When I moved to Calgary as a kid, I quickly learned that finding a taste of home wasn’t as easy as I’d hoped. Growing up here, my mom’s kitchen was always where I felt most connected to my roots. The smell of her Jollof or chicken stew brought me right back to Nigeria, and it was the highlight of every family gathering.

But as I got older, I noticed how tough it was for so many of us to find food that truly tastes like home. Trying to find dishes that hit that same comfort spot—without the high cost or long wait times—was nearly impossible. And restaurant versions just didn’t have the same magic.
